Welcome Back!

Since the launch of Girl, Groomed on April 22, I’ve been deeply moved by how the book has resonated with readers. Whether you’ve been here since the beginning or are just joining now, I’m grateful to have you as part of this growing community.

In these newsletters, I’ll continue to share behind-the-scenes stories, personal reflections, and what’s next—because healing doesn’t stop at the final page.

We’ve reached the final installment of my essay, Weeds of My Mind.
In the first piece, I explored how early seeds of self-doubt were planted. In the second, how they began to take root in my childhood experiences. Now, in Part Three, I want to reflect on where this journey has led me as an adult—and how each of us can become the gardener of our own mind.

WEEDS OF MY MIND

Becoming the Gardener

Whatever the source and results of our self-distortions, we all end up with weeds in our inner garden. Negative self-talk can grow deep roots over time.

Now, as adults, we are the gardeners of our own minds. Can we identify the disparaging thoughts?

Can we bring compassion to this weed-pulling by realizing that it stems from a distorted sense of who we truly are?

By the way, we wouldn’t say those things we hear in our heads to someone we loved. Is continuing to say them to ourselves unchallenged, healthy for
our garden? We choose what we end up fertilizing.

How are you tending your inner garden?
With awareness and compassion, I hope.

Hands in yellow gloves gently pulling weeds from a garden, symbolizing the act of tending the mind with awareness and compassion.

🌸 And here’s a little extra joy to share: this very piece, Weeds of My Mind, will be included in Real Women Write: Volume 24 – In the Garden, an anthology from Story Circle Network, that celebrates women’s voices through stories, essays, and poetry.

The collection will be released in November 2025, and I’m honored that my words will be part of a chorus of women reflecting on what it means to tend our inner and outer gardens.

Until then, thank you for being here and walking this path with me.
